On this occasion, about 250 thousand people completed the survey to vote on which of the cities they'd visited they preferred, and why. Some of the aspects the magazine noted about Merida included the presence of Mayan culture and its living traditions and customs, easy access to UNESCO-recognized sites such as the archaeological zones of Uxmal and Chichen Itza, and its proximity to the beach and the port of Progreso.
